Jim Scanlon is senior vice president and general manager of SAIC’s Defense Systems Customer Group with responsibility for leading strategy, business development, and program execution for approximately more than $2.4 billion in support to the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Defense Logistics Agency.
Most recently, Scanlon served as senior vice president and general manager for all Army business within SAIC, representing approximately a $1 billion annual portfolio. The Army group has a large diversified contract base with locations across the country and abroad. Scanlon led the group’s delivery of services and solutions in the areas of high-end engineering; large-scale systems integration; modeling, simulation, and training; software development and sustainment; force protection; and enterprise IT managed services.
Prior to leading the company’s Army business, Scanlon was the general manager for the Servicesand Solutions Sector, where he oversaw operations for the sector’s 13,000 employees and SAIC's alliance partners as they delivered services and solutions to customers in the U.S. civilian, defense, and intelligence government markets.
Scanlon played a key role in the separation of legacy SAIC into two new companies in 2013. He was instrumental in leading the successful transformation of the enterprise from a hierarchical organization structure to a matrix business model. He co-led the team that developed the detailed matrix organization structure including roles, responsibilities, and authorities; built the product offering taxonomy and framework; selected and implemented the resource management system tool; and assigned 10,000 employees, based on their capabilities, to a service line.
Scanlon joined SAIC in 1988 as a project engineer supporting research and development of hybrid electric combat vehicles. During the ensuing years, he served in various leadership positions providing business management and operations, program management, business development, and strategic planning support.
Scanlon received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Military Institute, where he graduated with honors, and earned an MBA from Kennesaw State University in Georgia. Scanlon served in the United States Air Force from 1984-1988.
