SAIC CEO's Statement on Sustainability

Stewardship of our natural resources is one reflection of SAIC's commitment to corporate responsibility, ethics, and integrity.

Oct. 11, 2011

Sustainable business operations support SAIC's commitment to corporate responsibility and enhance our ability to deliver efficient solutions to our customers. Responsible use of energy and water resources while managing and minimizing our waste and emissions is an integral part of this commitment. It is also smart business.

Continuous, methodical, and measurable improvements to our environmental performance are key to achieving sustainable change. Over the past several years, SAIC has been actively implementing changes designed to reduce our impact on the environment within our facilities and in how we do business. These changes have provided a positive return on investment, a platform for the demonstration of our energy and environmental solutions, and improved alignment with some of our most important customers.

Like many of our key customers and stakeholders, SAIC views greenhouse gas emissions as one of the more important metrics of environmental performance. We began tracking our GHG emissions in 2005 and submitted our first third-party verified corporate report to The Climate Registry in 2009. We will continue to track, report and mitigate our GHG emissions, setting a goal to reduce our operational greenhouse gas emissions 25 percent from 2010 levels by 2020.

As we have done in the past, we will leverage the broad expertise of our employees and our high performance culture to meet our sustainability objectives, improve the effectiveness of every dollar spent and better serve our customers. With help from SAIC's talented energy engineers, we continue to identify and implement additional cost-effective energy efficiency projects across our facilities. Employee education programs are under development to improve environmental and energy awareness. We are continually optimizing the use of our existing real estate portfolio to support a more agile workforce and further reduce our environmental impact. Providing internal computing applications through a cloud environment will allow for improved data center management and energy reductions.

As exemplified by our landfill-free headquarters campus in McLean, VA, further opportunities for improvements in waste and water management will be identified throughout our operations. We will continue to support ridesharing and accessibility to alternative transportation initiatives that have earned SAIC the designation of Best Workplace for CommutersSM from the National Center for Transit Research.

Competitive advantage belongs to those companies that integrate sustainability principles into their thinking, their culture, their operations and the solutions and products that they provide to their customers. Stewardship of our natural resources is one reflection of SAIC's commitment to corporate responsibility, ethics, and integrity. We will continue to take actions and make investments that improve our business performance and sustainability.

Sincerely,
