Growth of the Company: FY 1981

In the face of record high interest rates, SAI dramatically improved profitability over Fiscal Year 1980—net income was up 38 percent. In Fiscal Year 1981, SAI appointed four executive vice presidents and formed an Executive Committee, which added to its management capability.

Another notable development in Fiscal Year 1981 was the improvement in the company’s ability to win and perform on large, multifaceted contracts in both the government and commercial sectors. A Technical Environmental Committee (TEC) was formed within the company to submit recommendations for maintaining a productive work environment.

  • The company provided net assessment and analytic support to U.S. and NATO initiatives

  • SAI played an instrumental role after the discovery of massive environmental contamination at Love Canal in New York state

  • There was dramatic growth in sales of the company's largest product line, PLASMASCOPE, which was superior to CRT displays in difficult environments
