Growth of the Company: FY 1982

Fiscal Year 1982 highlighted SAI’s ability to adjust to change. With the inauguration of a new administration in Washington, and a subsequent shift in national priorities, dramatic changes occurred in the contract research market.

Despite the confusion and uncertainty this created, the company experienced its thirteenth consecutive year of record performance.

To benefit from favorable corporate statutes in Delaware, a new parent holding company known as Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) was created. SAI is now a subsidiary and remains a California Corporation.

Earnings per share rose 34% to $.87 (after a 2-1 split)

  • SAI completed the advanced Patriot Air Defense System Simulator, designed to simulate field operations

  • A major manufacturing program included a contract to provide plasma displays for the Ground Launch Cruise Missile

  • SAI's radiation-monitoring instrumentation business experienced continuous growth, particularly with public utilities having nuclear energy plants
