Growth of the Company: FY 1990

In Fiscal Year 1990, SAIC crowned 21 years of consecutive growth by achieving more than $1 billion in revenues. Growing from a small cadre of research scientists in Fiscal Year 1970 to over 11,000 employees, SAIC had become one of the largest employee-owned businesses in the U.S.

Responding to continued growth, SAIC expanded and centralized facilities.

The COMSYSTEMS staff moved into a 180,000-sq.-ft. facility in San Diego; work also was completed on a second office tower in McLean, Virginia
The company consolidated a major portion of its San Diego-based laboratory and manufacturing activities into a new 165,000-sq.-ft. facility at Campus Point
An additional 65,000-sq.-ft. building at Campus Point housed SAIC’s administrative department
The acquisition of Strategic Research and Management Services in Norfolk, Virginia, strengthened SAIC’s operations, research, and simulation areas, along with the acquisition of several companies in Ohio and California
