Strong growth contributed to SAIC being ranked #1 among the Top Federal Systems Integration Contractors and Health and Human Services Federal Contractors by Government Executive magazine and #289 on the FORTUNE® 500 list of the largest U.S. companies. SAIC was ranked by third party analysts as a leader in Desktop Outsourcing and in Help Desk Outsourcing (Gartner Group) and as a leader in IT Outsourcing for the State and Local Market (Meta). SAIC also received the U.S. Department of Commerce's prestigious Distinguished Supplier Diversity Award.
Ken Dahlberg succeeded J. Robert Beyster, Ph.D., SAIC's founder, as SAIC's chief executive officer on November 3, 2003.
SAIC won major commercial and state and local government contracts in healthcare, transportation, and criminal justice. We are providing IT consulting services to contain costs while improving quality of health care services for Catholic Healthcare Partners. We also are providing IT outsourcing for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. For the transportation industry, our intelligent, secure, automated solutions include a new biometrics gate system for a Union Pacific terminal in Illinois and cargo terminal automation for marine terminal operator Maher Terminals. Among our state and local government contracts, we are beginning design of a new, state-of-the-art, integrated criminal history system for the State of Florida.
SAIC was awarded numerous large federal government contracts during fiscal year 2004.
A contract from the U.S. Army Forces Command, Fort McPherson, Ga., to provide services to U.S. Army warfighters.
A contract to support the Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff's Command, Control, Communications and Computer Systems (C4) Directorate for the Global Information Grid Analysis, Assessment, Study, Planning, Software Development and Engineering Services.
A contract award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to build a Web-based system for tracking biological agents and toxins as part of a broad effort to improve national security.
A contract award of the Unified NASA Information Technology Services (UNITeS) contract, from the NASA George C. Marshall Space Flight Center, to provide IT management service functions.
- A contract award from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) to continue providing Systems Engineering Technical Assistance (SETA) to the Cooperative Threat Reduction program. The award continues a 12-year relationship SAIC has had as the only contractor to provide SETA support to this program at DTRA.
During the year, SAIC made several significant strategic acquisitions to enhance its security technologies.
