Fiscal Year 2009
SAIC continued capturing large and challenging programs with new and existing U.S. federal government clients. Highlights of SAIC's fiscal year (FY) 2009 contract wins include contracts to:
- Provide life-cycle maintenance of the U.S. Army's Program Executive Office for Enterprise Information Systems' Reserve Component Automation System and support for the Distributive Training Technology Project.
- Design, develop, and integrate a synergistic human/machine system for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency Deep Green Program.
- Provide engineering and technical services in support of NASA's Constellation Program.
- Design, procure, integrate, and field enhanced chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear capabilities and provide logistical support services to the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command.
- Provide comprehensive software and engineering services for the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture Health Data Systems Repositories, an electronic health record system used throughout the Department of Veterans Affairs medical system.
- Help streamline the U.S. Army Human Resources Command's information technology (IT) support.
- Provide linguist translation and transcription, media and document exploitation, and related support services to the Defense Intelligence Agency National Media Exploitation Center.
- Provide operations and technical support to the National Cancer Institute as it strives to find new ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer and AIDS.
Commercial firm contract wins included contracts to:
- Provide environmental engineering, management and consulting services to Chevron U.S.A., Inc., within the U.S. and internationally.
- Provide data outsourcing services to PNM Resources, Inc., the largest electricity and natural gas provider in New Mexico.
In FY 2009, SAIC acquired SM Consulting, Inc. (SMC) and Icon Systems, Inc. (Icon). SMC provides services in language, intelligence, information technology, management consulting, business process outsourcing, training, and logistics to federal, state, and local governments and private industry. Icon, now an SAIC operation, is a leader in the design, development and production of state-of-the-art laser-based systems and products for military training and testing.
SAIC initiatives to develop strong relationships with small businesses resulted in record performance during the government fiscal year that ended September 2008. The company significantly exceeded the government's statutory goals for women- and minority-owned businesses, and service disabled veteran-owned businesses. SAIC awarded more than $1.6 billion in subcontracts to small businesses, a 32 percent increase from last year's $1.2 billion. This included approximately $700 million awarded to women- and minority-owned firms, and more than $300 million awarded to veteran-owned businesses. SAIC also received its twelfth Nunn-Perry Award from the U.S. Department of Defense for Mentor-Protégé Program Excellence. In addition, for the second consecutive year, SAIC received a 2008 Corporate Champion Award from the Veterans Affairs' Center for Veterans Enterprise, recognizing dedication to expanding business opportunities for veterans and service-connected disabled veterans.
SAIC continued to be recognized by customers, industry associations and business and technology media for leadership in many areas. McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc.'s BusinessWeek® Top 20 Tech Hot Growth Companies 2008 ranked SAIC No. 14. The Ethisphere Institute ranked SAIC No. 7 on its World's Most Ethical Companies list of government contractors. Time Inc.'s FORTUNE® magazine list of America's Most Admired Companies ranked SAIC fourth in Information Technology Services.
