Wetlands

SAIC's diverse project experience includes a substantial focus on freshwater and tidal wetlands. SAIC's capabilities include technical support for jurisdictional determinations in wetlands and waterways for federal, state, and local permit programs; functional assessments; mitigation design; and monitoring programs. SAIC personnel include experienced soil scientists, ecologists, and regulatory experts to assist with the full range of technical and regulatory issues related to wetlands.

Wetland habitats are intricately related to a variety of environmental issues, such as rare, threatened and endangered species, essential fish habitat, water quality renovation, and watershed planning initiatives. SAIC's scientific and regulatory experts provide integrated approaches to ensure wetlands issues and associated habitat concerns are successfully addressed from technical, logistical, regulatory, and cost perspectives.

SAIC staff have provided wetlands and waterways support services for a broad range of projects involving remedial activities for contaminated sediments in wetlands, intertidal and subtidal environments; development projects where jurisdictional determinations and the project planning sequence of avoidance, minimization, and mitigation must be applied; and habitat enhancement programs consisting of prioritization of restoration/enhancement goals, construction methods and oversight, and long-term monitoring and assessment. SAIC also provides programmatic wetlands assistance such as training programs in delineation.

Experience and Capability Highlights

  • Over 200 marine scientists, regulatory experts and planners, and engineers;

  • Expertise in wetlands delineation, wetlands habitat assessment and valuation, wetlands mitigation monitoring, and wetlands restoration feasibility and design studies;

  • Provision of project-specific and programmatic assistance to federal government, and state agencies regarding regulatory programs for wetlands and waterways;

  • Preparation of watershed management plans that include mapping and assessment of wetlands and strategies to protect, preserve, and enhance wetland functions;

  • Training programs in the federal, three-parameter wetlands delineation method using soils, vegetation, and hydrology to identify wetlands; and
