SAIC supports systems engineering, change management, human resource planning, and implementation of facility and support projects required to maintain and modernize the National Airspace System. SAIC's assistance to the FAA in critical technical, planning, and management areas includes:

  • Shortfall analysis
  • Human factors analysis and engineering
  • Requirements determination
  • Alternative and investment analysis
  • Test and evaluation
  • Program management support
  • Operational implementation planning
  • Support engineering evaluation
  • New airport systems/transition engineering
  • Infrastructure management
  • Performance measurement
  • Spectrum engineering

Airspace Procedures

SAIC provides systems engineering and acquisition support to the U.S. government for the design, development, test and use of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) for civil and military applications, including flight in controlled airspace. We provide terminal airspace management using CNS/ATM procedures. Support includes air traffic control radar approach and tower operations.

Human Factors Engineering

SAIC provides human factors and associated engineering services that enable people to perform more safely and effectively within complex aviation systems. Development, operation and application services include:

  • Flight simulators for training and engineering development
  • Rapid prototyping environments for design and testing of effective human-system interfaces.
  • Human performance modeling to assess human system designs, work processes, and associated issues such as workload, situation awareness, error and reliability
  • Job/task analyses, cognitive task analyses, and work process studies
  • Studies and analyses to identify and address specific performance deficiencies

Flight Test Operations

SAIC's airborne integration and flight testing systems analysis and exploitation experience includes management, integration, maintenance, and operation of airborne electronics, sensors and aviation assets for various DoD missions, agencies, and laboratories.

SAIC offers the following services within the Flight Test Operations arena:

  • Acquisition packages
  • Review proposals
  • Evaluate Engineering Change Proposal
  • Support source selection activities
  • Sensor system performance, design, project planning, and project control
  • Develop SOWs for providing engineering support in developing airborne sensing systems
  • Develop requirements, conduct analysis, provide integration and support testing
  • Conduct sensor data analysis, exploitation and fusion
  • Evaluation of new avionics hardware
  • Operational performance standards support on RTCA working committees
  • Evaluation of vendors and integration methods
  • Oversee installations of avionics systems

Airport Operations

SAIC's experience in airport operations includes the implementation of new airport systems and transition engineering. We also have expertise in the management, integration, maintenance, and operation of aircraft and other aviation assets.

In addition, SAIC has extensive experience in emergency response and disaster preparedness for public facilities. These capabilities include:

  • Assessment of existing procedures
  • Defining future planning processes
  • Modeling scenarios
  • Planning for emergency response and natural disasters
  • Modeling and simulation

SAIC's experience includes the design, development, testing and deployment of models and simulation in support of national airspace and airport analysis studies.

Our deployed models are scalable, allowing them to address national airspace problems and more detailed local airspace, runway, terminal, and gate analysis issues in a consistent fashion. These models have been used to analyze multi-modal transportation problems, including air, railway, highways, pipeline, and waterways.

The Operational Multi-scale Environment Model with Grid Adaptivity (OMEGA) is an advanced atmospheric simulation system with a highly flexible grid structure. As an aviation application, OMEGA improved ceiling, visibility, and wind forecasting enhancing terminal operations and runway utilization. In addition, it offers enhanced hurricane forecasting.

SAIC's Consequences Assessment Tool Set (CATS), can predict damage, and assess the consequences resulting from a technological or natural hazard/disaster.

Aviation Construction

SAIC offers a full range of capabilities in consulting, engineering, architecture and design/build, including specialized expertise in energy management, alternative fuels, process engineering, industrial manufacturing, facilities, software development and integration, and advanced visualization and communication systems. Within the commercial airline industry, SAIC's aviation experience includes airport master planning, program management, construction management, design build and design of facilities for training, logistics, communications, command and operations, security, maintenance and more.

Success Stories

AeroPlanner
AeroPlanner.com is a web-based flight planner requiring only a browser — no software installation or update CDs are required. Customers have access to all current FAA VFR & IFR navigation charts and terminal instrument procedures. Customers can also manually plan a route, selecting airports, cities, navaids, fixes or chart features as waypoints or simply use the auto-route function.

AeroPlanner also incorporates wind data to create a navigation log and displays the route on any selected chart. Our servers are constantly collecting and indexing data from many different sources including the FAA, National Weather Service, NGA, partners, and user generated input. This process is invisible to our users but allows us to quickly and efficiently supply them with up to date information in their particular area of interest.
