SAIC Canada: Helping Protect Canada's Health and Safety

The Nuclear Materials Accounting System (NMAS) was created for the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). NMAS is a mission-critical and award-winning program used by the CNSC to track nuclear materials and produce reports required to fulfill Canada's obligations to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). NMAS is a Web-based (thin client) database application that looks and feels like a desktop application. It employs an integrated architecture based on Microsoft's .Net framework, SQL Server® and Crystal Reports.

The Probability Risk Assessment Tool (PRA Tool) was created under Canada's Chemical, Biological, Radiological/Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Research and Technology Initiative (CRTI). The PRA Tool is a Java-based application using Borland's integrated developer and relational database. The PRA Tool employs a unique and innovative blend of failure analysis, risk assessment, and health physics-based consequences using Dose Conversion Factor (DCF) calculations. The PRA Tool aids scientists in their analysis of potential radiological dispersion devices (RDDs) and radiation emitting devices (REDs). It has received glowing reviews by users and researchers alike within the CRTI community.

The Electronic Public Health Surveillance (EPHS) Program was developed for the government of Canada and the province of British Columbia. The project was a collaborative effort led by IBM, including Amaranth Consulting Group (British Columbia), Science Technologies Corporation (U.S.A.), Sotern (Belgium) and SAIC Canada.

The technology used was IBM's WebSphere® on the Rational Software Development Platform. SAIC Canada was responsible for several of the early software modules involving patient interventions and prescriptions.
