Energy Management and Sustainability
SAIC develops and implements sustainability and energy programs to benefit our clients' financial performance, competitive advantage, and market reputations. Our programs help unlock new value in enterprises by integrating sustainability into business strategic planning.
Overview
Sustainability is a strategic approach driven by a sound business decision to reduce operating cost and boost return on investment. A sustainability strategy is also driven by increased consumer and shareholder expectations for “green” providers, brand equity protection, policy compliance, and enterprise risk management.
SAIC's energy management, energy efficiency, and sustainability program services are rooted in a deep domain knowledge of our clients' businesses and facilities. Our subject matter expertise also comprises energy consumption best practices, and we provide hands-on project experience helping clients build sustainable programs. We understand that sustainability objectives are unique to each organization and our programs are customized to meet individual client needs.

Our broadly based professional energy management and sustainability services:
Sustainable Building Design
SAIC teams with our clients to transform sustainability concepts into building development, design, and construction blueprints. Our accredited Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) professionals facilitate collaborative sessions, or charettes, between the client and the design team to identify sustainable design strategies, assist with LEED processes and file for certification credits; analyze, model and investigate alternative green technologies and designs; and oversee the commissioning process. We also help create custom initiatives, according to individual standards and objectives, to obtain green building certification.
SAIC's technical experts also support design strategies and optimization, including energy system analysis, technology evaluation, design review, commissioning, and implementation.
Turnkey Sustainable Services, Model Validation and Systems Certification Test Center, Government National Laboratory
SAIC provided turnkey project delivery, including full architecture, engineering design, and complete advanced communication systems integration, for this federal government project in New Mexico.
Energy Modeling and Forecasting
SAIC has a long history of developing and applying economic modeling techniques to a wide variety of energy policy, regulatory, and technology-related issues. Our multi-disciplinary staff includes economists, operations research analysts, energy industry specialists, modelers, and computer programmers.
We offer comprehensive modeling of energy markets, natural gas transmission and distribution, oil and gas exploration and production; liquefied natural gas, petroleum, and coal markets. We also provide simulation of electric power grid, capacity planning, and wholesale price forecasting to help clients understand financial impacts on their business.
We perform modeling to support real estate portfolio planning and management, including existing and future building systems, electricity usage, and integrated design. Additionally, SAIC's experts model and forecast the impacts of climate change and carbon management legislation on your specific business, using results to provide clarity and direction regarding return on investment resulting from energy efficiency initiatives, proposed and future legislation, and changes in public policy.
Energy Market Assessment and Modeling for the U.S. Government
For more than 20 years, SAIC has supported various agencies within the U.S. government by developing analytical techniques to solve problems covering a wide variety of issues in natural gas and other energy industries.
Climate Change Policy Modeling
SAIC played a critical role in the design and provides ongoing support for the implementation of the publicly available National Energy Modeling System (NEMS).
Energy Risk Management
SAIC works with clients to help them minimize the impacts of volatile energy markets so that they can manage energy risk rather than have risk control them.
We provide market advisory and analysis reports to help ensure clients remain up-to-date regarding the most recent activities in the energy market. We assist in developing risk-management strategies, policies and procedures, and develop hedging strategies to reduce risk exposure to volatilities in energy price and supply.
Sustainable Energy Solutions for State University of New York
The State University of New York (SUNY) operates 35 facilities throughout New York state, with an annual electric consumption of 1.25 million megawatt hours and an annual fossil fuel consumption of 7.7 trillion British Thermal Units, the equivalent of 55 million gallons of heating oil.
Energy Procurement
In a time of great volatility in energy prices and availability, adopting a routine and systematic process to evaluate energy market conditions, price volatility and budget control requirements may lead to greater price certainty and cost control.
SAIC assists clients with energy procurement, including auction support, for electricity, natural gas, diesel fuel, renewable energy, and carbon credits. Our services range from discrete energy procurements to complete energy procurement outsourcing.
Energy Procurement for General Services Administration
The General Services Administration (GSA) Northeast Region is responsible for the administration of a wide variety of buildings and facilities in the Northeast U.S. In many of these states, energy has been deregulated so energy suppliers can bid for the contract to supply electricity. Without up-to-date information on all of the different suppliers in of the different states, GSA has no way to accurately predict the markets and get the best price for power.
Outsourcing, Education and Training
SAIC's dedicated staff of energy experts are equipped to help clients manage the growing complexity of the energy market. We apply our knowledge to a variety of business needs and operations including creating, implementing, and managing energy programs, and providing back-office support for repetitive processes such as procurement and energy bill processing and payment.
We provide on-site training to assist client staff in understanding the impacts of energy conservation measures, train operators to implement energy-saving best practices, develop strategies to plan and obtain senior management buy-in for sustainable business practices, and help build strategies to deal with the impacts of current and future climate change and carbon management legislation.
Practical Energy Management (PEM)
SAIC designed this specialized energy management training and facilitation offering for the commercial and industrial building industry. The objective of the PEM program is to empower the participant to actually perform and complete an energy management plan.
Sustainability Programs
We provided comprehensive energy management services to the State University of New York (SUNY), helping save significantly on annual power consumption across 35 facilities, and enabling SUNY to defer tuition increases.
