Pipelines, Terminals, and Support Systems

SAIC provides full engineering, design, and design-build services for new fuel facilities as well as modifications, expansions, and upgrades of existing facilities. These facilities include storage tanks, pipelines, and loading/unloading facilities for trucks and rail cars.

Overview

SAIC's expertise covers chemicals and multiple fuels including ethanol, gasoline, and diesel. SAIC has also designed fuel storage facilities ranging in size from a few hundred gallons to more than 100,000 barrels. Our designs incorporate over fill detection and spill containment, tank gauging, emergency shutdown, fire detection, fire suppression, and access security.

Pipelines and storage facilities handling chemicals and various hydrocarbons typically require considerable zoning and permitting. SAIC's professional engineers also provide the necessary drawings and application paperwork to assist through the zoning and permitting processes.

Success Stories

  • Tank Farm Expansion for Transportation, Storage, and Distribution Company

SAIC provided design and drafting services for the installation of 30 internal floating roof tanks totaling 3.7 million barrels of storage at a Texas facility. This $100 million project also included the expansion of fixed foam fire protection and spill containment dikes, in addition to the hydrocarbon piping. Tank line diameters were up to 42 inches.

  • Tank Farm Expansion for Refined Fuels Transportation, Storage, and Distribution Company

This project required expanding existing tank farm storage capacity for a major distributor of refined petroleum products located in Connecticut. SAIC provided project design and drafting for three internal floating roof tanks with a total of 268,000 barrels of storage. In addition to the design and layout of the tanks and the piping, the project included expanding fixed-foam fire protection piping and spill-containment earthen dikes.

Supporting project features included driven pile with concrete cap tank foundations, back-pressure foam generator for subsurface injection, tank-mounted foam generator piping layout, drainage system reroute, pipeline corridor piping reroute, and piping supports.

  • Rail Unloading and Tank Farm Addition at Chemical Facility

SAIC designed and constructed the raw material and product storage, reactor system, transfer systems, utility systems and wastewater treatment at this emulsion polymer chemical facility in Delaware. In a follow-on project, we designed an $11.5 million tank farm storage addition and expanded rail unloading capabilities at the plant.

We provided concept design, P&IDs, detailed design, and construction drawings for a rail unloading station; control and communication building; unloading platform; spill-collection and transfer system including equipment shed unloading and transfer pumps, lines and vents; security, phone and DCS control between the main plant and the rail unloading facility; fire protection; and new raw material storage tanks, pumps, controls and piping.

  • Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures Engineering Support, Regional Gas & Electric Utility

SAIC has provided ongoing engineering support services to this regional gas and electric provider in Oklahoma for bulk storage container installations requiring secondary containment. Projects also include compressor station installations and upgrades, pipeline relocations and pipeline metering installations and upgrades.
