Combined Heat and Power and Biomass

SAIC provides engineering, design, and construction administration services for biomass steam cycle gasification and biomass-fueled power plants.

Combined Heat and Power/Cogeneration

SAIC helps commercial and government customers realize energy efficiencies at their facilities by using combined heat and power options. Also known as cogeneration, combined heat and power (CHP) is an energy-efficient, clean, and reliable approach to generating power and heat from a single fuel source, such as natural gas, biomass, biogas, coal, waste heat, or oil.

We install combined heat and power systems designed to meet the thermal and electrical base loads of a facility to increase operational efficiency and decrease energy costs. At the same time, combined heat and power reduces the emission of greenhouse gases. Combined heat and power is not a single technology, but an integrated energy system that may be modified according to the needs of the energy end-user.

SAIC provides utility systems master planning and design services. We analyze a variety of equipment and operating scenarios to evaluate the feasibility of incorporating energy reduction strategies such as:

  • Central plant versus distributed heating and cooling options
  • Cogeneration heat pump
  • Electrical demand reduction
  • Thermal storage

We provide customers with full engineering services, including auxiliary services such as:

  • Cooling water and cooling towers
  • Service air
  • Water treatment
  • Condensate and boiler feed-water systems

Biomass: Reliable, Cost-Effective Energy

SAIC’s expertise in biomass and gasification energy provides our customers with reliable, maintainable, cost-effective energy supply systems. The advantages of using biomass generation include:

  • No carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere
  • It can generate electricity with the same power plants that burn fossil fuels
  • Elimination of waste while decreasing the amount of emissions created by fossil fuels
