Advanced Metering Infrastructure
SAIC possesses capabilities and solutions that support current industry efforts to build an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) to collect and distribute highly accurate information about customer electricity and/or gas usage to enable time-differentiated tariffs, demand response, outage detection, theft detection, network optimization, and market operations.
An advanced metering infrastructure is a comprehensive, integrated collection of devices, networks, computer systems, protocols and organizational processes dedicated to distributing highly accurate information about customer electricity and/or gas usage throughout the power utility and back to the customers themselves.
Such an infrastructure is considered "advanced" because it not only gathers customer data automatically, but also does so securely, reliably, and in a timely fashion while adhering to published, open standards and permitting simple, automated upgrading and expansion.
A well-deployed advanced metering infrastructure enables a variety of utility applications to be performed more accurately and efficiently including time-differentiated tariffs, demand response, outage detection, theft detection, network optimization, and market operations.
SAIC is an industry leader in the design and deployment of remote sensing technologies, telecommunications networks, advanced information technology architectures, and real-time information systems-the building blocks of AMI.
SAIC is currently working with select clients and industry working groups to develop a Reference Architecture and Deployment Toolkit to assist clients with technology selections, pilot/prototype development, and program deployment.
SAIC is also sponsoring collaborative and proprietary research and development projects in key technology areas crucial to successful AMI adoption and operations.
