Process Safety Management (PSM)

Your Process Safety Management Solution

Implemented properly, PSM can be an effective tool for increasing not only the safety of an operation, but its efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality. While it is an Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) requirement for only a limited number of chemicals, PSM is increasingly becoming the standard to which industry is being held. PSM is an instrument for developing, implementing, and maintaining not only a safe, but efficient process as well.

SAIC is a leader in the field of environmental, health and safety (EH&S) and places a strong emphasis on EH&S activities both internally and on behalf of our customers. SAIC has hundreds of EH&S scientists, engineers and professionals. SAIC's extensive EH&S experience benefits our customers as they strive to implement PSM in their organizations. Our team provides a variety of integrated PSM services including process hazards analysis, development of operating procedures, training, safety reviews, change management, incident investigation, compliance audits, and emergency planning and response.

SAIC can help your PSM program, whether it is developed under regulatory guidelines, industry standards, (such as Responsible Care®) or your own volition. In addition to examining and reporting on PSM requirements, we can make recommendations to improve your program. Below are the core components of a PSM program.

Compliance Audits
One of the elements that can tie all of the others together, in addition to being a regulatory requirement, is compliance auditing. An effective audit is not just targeted at meeting regulatory requirements; it is a tool for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of PSM. An outside consultant can view your operation differently than you are able to do from an internal point of view.

Staff
Our staff of safety professional specialists is knowledgeable in industrial hygiene, environmental issues, ergonomics, hazard analysis, regulatory compliance, incident investigations, and root cause analysis. We bring to your situation a background in engineering and experience leading, conducting and documenting audits, as well as an understanding of both the technical and legal requirements of PSM.

The staff has extensive Process Safety Management experience in compliance audits, contractors, hot work permits, process hazards analysis, process safety information, training, and related procedures.

Responsible Care is a registered servicemark of the American Chemistry Council (ACC).
