SAIC Europe Defence
The UK Government's Strategic Defence Review (SDR) and the New Chapter (added after September 11th, 2001) set out a new approach to defence operations, including the need to establish joint capabilities in nearly every aspect of defence work.
SAIC - One of the Largest Defence Contractors in the World
SAIC has a long history of engineering and integrating software systems to help defence organisations work smarter - and we continue to operate at the heart of this industry. We are consistently ranked as one of the best system integrators and prime contractors by Government clients. Indeed, SAIC is one of the largest defence contractors in the world. See SAIC's rankings for more information.
Working alongside almost every major player in the defence sector, SAIC engineers integrate a wide range of defence information systems used by the Army, Navy and Air Force, to ensure that hard-won information is used to the maximum possible extent.
Projects recently undertaken by our staff in the UK include:
- C4ISTAR: The Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance integration programmes lie at the heart of the UK military's process. SAIC is providing a range of system engineering and integration services to MoD customers responsible for realising the aspirations of Network-Enabled Capability. Our information systems work includes the Intelligence, Surveillance, Target & Reconnaissance (ISTAR) Testbed programme.
- CATT: SAIC has played a key role in the successful fielding of CATT at the British Army's Land Warfare Centre and will continue to provide support to its training operations. The Combined Arms Tactical Trainer system is one of the largest and most sophisticated virtual training centres in the world.
A Provider of Professional Services
SAIC's experience on the engineering and integration of very large-scale information systems is combined with a complete independence from vested interests. This market position has allowed SAIC to act in the role of the coordinating authority between multiple, potentially competitive stakeholders with regard to integration management issues. In essence, we can become the technical arm of the government programme management team.
We are a leading contractor to the US Department of Defense (DoD), but we do not regard the UK defence market as an export opportunity. Our approach has always been to draw on the experience of our American colleagues, transferring knowledge to our staff, and ultimately benefiting our UK clients.
