Governance Services
The Governance Services team is comprised of Business Analysts, principally drawn from across the UK Gas and Electricity industries. Over the years, the team has grown and developed its knowledge of the governance arrangements that underpin these industries, regularly contributing to membership of expert groups and committees.
Background to the Gas and Electricity industry
Since the start of the mass deregulation of UK Gas & Electricity markets in 1996 and 1998 respectively, industry governance bodies have been working with participants to improve market operations and customer experience. The governance changes and modifications proposed by these bodies are generally communicated via websites or through fairly indiscriminate e-mail circulation.
With a significant number of consultations taking place in the market at any one time, it has grown increasingly difficult for industry participants to commit sufficient resources to accurately discern the relevant from the innocuous, as this would perhaps require action to safeguard commercial interests.
The Governance Services team addresses this issue by:
- providing a dedicated single point of contact (SPoC) service for e-mails to and from the industry
- filtering and analysing all SPoC communications
- summarising business implications
- providing draft responses for consideration
- managing responses back to industry within defined timescales
- attending expert groups to influence the outcome of industry changes and modifications
- providing expertise to customer projects to aid compliance with current and potential regulatory requirements
- conducting analysis projects on behalf of customers
- helping customers enter the utilities market(s)
