Living Our Commitment to Sustainability
At SAIC, we are committed to sustainable business practices as well as delivering efficient, sustainable solutions to our customers. We practice Earth Day every day.
Greenest Company Ranking
SAIC was recently recognized among the top 10 percent in Newsweek's annual Green rankings, rising to No. 44 from No. 313 in 2009 and No. 192 in 2010, among the greenest 500 companies in the United States. Newsweek teamed with two leading research organizations to assess each company's environmental footprint, management of that footprint, and transparency. Factors considered included greenhouse gas emissions and water use; environmental policies, programs, and initiatives; and company reporting and disclosure.
SAIC's President of Health, Energy and Civil Solutions Group, Joe Craver, comments on SAIC's involvement with sustainability and green practices, "What I value in [SAIC] is what we work on. We work on things that are of national importance that have an impact on our world and our country. Sustainability is one of those projects. Our impact on the environment directly impacts the world and impacts our kids, and I'm proud to be part of it."

Improving Our Customers' Sustainability Practices
SAIC's sustainability services draw on substantial expertise in business, technology, and science to help improve customers' sustainable practices and increase the triple-bottom-line operational performance as well as unlocking new value in their enterprises. We help customers take an integrated approach to this enterprise by applying our diverse areas of expertise and tools to meet our customers' needs. SAIC understands that the environmental and social elements of the triple-bottom-line can only be effectively addressed by economically healthy organizations. Our services are designed to move an organization from a state of fragmented financial and environmental objectives to align and integrate them to reduce risk and optimize performance.
Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Another factor that helped establish SAIC's Green ranking is our continued active role in reducing our own carbon footprint. Since 2005, SAIC has tracked greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and actively implemented changes to reduce our impact on the environment within our own facilities and through enhanced business practices. These changes have provided a positive return on investment (ROI), a platform for the demonstration of the company's energy and environmental solutions, and improved alignment with customers.
In October 2011, SAIC announced our goal to reduce operational GHG emissions 25 percent from 2010 levels by 2020. We use in-house engineers who specialize in tackling energy challenges to help meet the new goal and to identify and implement additional, cost-effective energy efficiency projects across the enterprise. The company is also developing employee education programs to help improve environmental and energy awareness.
