Commercial High Resolution Imagery

SAIC provides selection and analysis services for satellite, airborne, radar, multispectral, LiDAR, and hyperspectral imagery. We support government and commercial business operations, in areas ranging from urban planning to environmental analysis to inventory tracking.

Overview

We are dedicated to providing our customers with customized high-quality imagery, finished imagery products, and analysis. We have contacts with various commercial imagery companies around the world to offer the latest available high, medium and low resolution imagery, radar imagery and LIDAR imagery.

Access to the Latest Imagery at a Discount

SAIC conveniently has offices in the same area as two of the primary providers of high-resolution commercial satellite imagery : GeoEye® and DigitalGlobe®. This allows us to work directly with these companies on a personal basis and eliminate the middle-man. We have negotiated Value Added Reseller (VAR) agreements with both companies that provide us access to their image products at a substantial discount, enabling a savings for customers.

Experience with Multiple Sensors and Platforms

SAIC's analysts have unique professional experience that cannot normally be found in a single company. We have worked with multiple sensors and platforms, both commercial and national, to include experience with satellite and airborne missions, radar, multispectral, LiDAR, and hyperspectral imagery.

Our analytical experience includes political analysis, disaster relief, crisis management, operational/exercise/planning support to warfighters, disease vector tracking, pipeline route planning, land use/land cover analysis, soil classification, transportation studies, bathymetric studies, beach analysis, fire fuels mapping and subpixel classification.

Case Studies

SAIC has a long history of utilizing Commercial High-Resolution Imagery to aid our clients in areas ranging from urban planning to environmental analysis to inventory tracking. The cases below are specific examples of some of the analysis and services that can be provided.

Vegetation Analyses

SAIC analysts provide support in a variety of domains. We supplied clients with medium resolution multispectral satellite imagery requiring both leaf-on and leaf-off imagery from the same calendar year. In turn, this data was used for various vegetation analyses, including, for example, mapping the extent and composition of overstory tree cover in a national monument in Indiana.

Mining Applications

SAIC's capability to utilize data for each unique purpose is second-to-none. SAIC supplied customers with a series of high-resolution multispectral orthorectified-ready images (orthoimages) to be used for various mining analyses and applications. The resulting images were then used in deterministic analysis of road layout, site preparation, and proximity to urban areas in support of the start-up of new mining operations.

Urban Planning

SAIC analysts are experts in urban data and data modeling. In one particular case, SAIC supplied clients with a series of high-resolution multispectral QuickBird images, both pan-sharpened color and orthoimage bundles, in support of urban planning activities, including images of 31 cities and towns in Chile.

Inventory Tracking

SAIC analysts are adept in maximizing the vast utility of imagery to solve change detection problems. For example, SAIC provided high-resolution multispectral IKONOS images used for a time-series analysis of the inflow and outflow of inventory on several outdoor storage sites in Chile.

Gas Wells Monitoring and New Pipeline Construction

SAIC's utilization of imagery also reaches beyond the federal government and intelligence community. SAIC has supplied various oil and gas companies with imagery to plot and then monitor the status of their gas wells, plan for new pipeline construction, and to monitor the daily activity at their wells over an extended time period.

Airfield Facilities Mapping

SAIC also uses imagery to extract and produce data in 2-D, 3-D, or 4-D. For example, SAIC utilized and provided aircraft industries companies with high-resolution imagery for support in building a 3-D map of airfield facilities using the imagery as the base map and background.

Land Use Mapping

SAIC has supported various organizations, agencies, and communities with high-resolution aerial imagery. For instance, SAIC assisted county government GIS offices in the updating of county housing, road, and land use maps.
