Climate Change Education and Training
SAIC helps clients understand their carbon footprint, decipher regulatory impacts, and determine effective ways to communicate the complexities of climate science to their organizations' management.
Education and Training to Ensure Organizational Support
The complexities of climate change may be tricky to navigate. What exactly is a carbon footprint? How will the regulations impact an organization or business? What is the most effective way to communicate the complexities of climate science to upper management?
SAIC offers educational workshops and training covering climate change science and policy to individual organizations, multi-client settings, and large conferences. Our work draws on our long history of working on GHG policy and strategic planning to impart practical knowledge and actionable results.
Case Studies
Climate Change 101 Training for the California Climate Action Registry Conference
For several years SAIC has delivered a training workshop entitled Climate Change 101 as part of the California Climate Action Registry's annual Navigating the Carbon World conference. The 3-part curriculum includes segments addressing climate change science and impacts; climate change policy at the state, national, and international level; and actions business may take to reduce risks and exploit opportunities.
Climate Change Simulation Game
For a strategic intelligence council within the U.S. government, SAIC organized a simulation of the international post-2012 United Nations climate change negotiations. The exercise simulated negotiations between the U.S., Russia, India, China, EU and Japan and was intended to demonstrate what it would take to reach agreement to extend the Kyoto Protocol beyond 2012. SAIC identified high-level climate change officials from the US, Europe, and India to participate; prepared briefing documents for each country team; chaired the negotiations; and summarized the outcome of the exercise.
Training to Estimate Greenhouse Gas Benefits from Alternative Fuel Vehicle Projects
On behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Clean Cities Program, the Gas Research Institute, and a DOE laboratory, SAIC developed training sessions on evaluating and estimating GHG emission reductions from alternative fuel vehicle projects and technologies. The sessions were held during three national Clean Cities Conferences and provided background information on climate change policy and GHG accounting procedures. SAIC also provided project case studies based on compressed natural gas and electric vehicle taxis.
