Transferring Health Data to and from Theater
SAIC is working with a Department of Defense (DoD) customer to improve the quality of care wounded soldiers receive in theater. Applying our expertise in systems integration, we are helping to assure that medical personnel in deployed environments have access to clinical care documentation and that the health data recorded in theater can be transmitted to the Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA) clinical data repository for post-theater care. We also are integrating products to advance soldier care through improved visibility into patient movement and expand the ability to track medical supplies and equipment.
Developing Systems to Help our Most Severely Wounded Soldiers
For the U.S. Army, SAIC developed a Web-based case management solution that helps enable Army case workers to track medical and benefit information for the Army's most severely wounded soldiers. Through integration of a number of medical and benefit data sources, the case management tool provides Army soldier and family management specialists and others who support these critically wounded soldiers and their families the resources they need to improve interaction, care, and services.
Discovering New Therapies for Cancer
Connecting clinical and genomic data can speed the development of new therapies to treat cancer. SAIC helped a federal biomedical research institution develop a clinical genomic database and a Web-based data mining and analysis platform to facilitate biomedical discovery. This system enables access to data from a variety of internal and external applications, and allows researchers to analyze data sets to identify meaningful patterns that can be shared with other physicians and researchers. This knowledge base is instrumental in supporting collaboration to improve research, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
Support for Researchers
SAIC assisted the National Cancer Institute's (NCI's) cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid® (caBIG®) program by developing applications, analysis tools, and infrastructure components to facilitate biomedical data sharing across the grid in a semantically interoperable fashion. SAIC provided the caBIG Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS) work space with toolkits supporting the generation of HL7 v3 messages, transforming legacy data to HL7 v3 messages and assisted in setting up a test bed environment demonstrating the exchange of HL7 messages across health grids. SAIC also provided governance and metadata management activities for the Vocabulary and Common Data Element (VCDE) cross-cutting work space.
