Improving Treatment of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
SAIC data analysts, medical researchers and epidemiologists joined forces with a medical research agency to analyze casualty data in search of new treatments for PTSD. Using comprehensive medical data residing in a combat trauma registry, researchers applied advanced analytical techniques to study how the use of morphine during trauma can reduce the risk of a patient developing PTSD. The study findings could help change the way medical teams treat individuals who have been through severe trauma to help lessen the psychological impact of stressful events. Learn more.
Public Health Preparedness
SAIC provides public health informatics support to federal agencies, developing information models and HL7 information exchange specifications to improve public health preparedness and interoperability. Through SAIC's expertise in HL7 and controlled medical terminology, we have helped public health organizations improve their ability to detect disease outbreaks or acts of bioterrorism, to conduct routine disease surveillance, to interchange laboratory results and requests, and to collaborate with state and local agencies in response to public health emergencies.
