SAIC Client Solutions

Hess

SAIC designed and implemented a global program to renew and enhance previous KM efforts and embed knowledge sharing and reuse into Hess' culture and business processes. Hess had $950,000 in measurable business gains across the three operational pilots that SAIC co-delivered with Hess. Proud of the results achieved, AHC published the results of this project in KM Review, Volume 5, Issue 5, November/December 2002 sharing, with the KM community the lessons learned and the performance improvements achieved.

Unocal

SAIC developed and implemented a global KM project to evolve and implement a knowledge environment strategy with Unocal business units in Alaska, Texas, Indonesia, and Thailand. Individual business unit pilots included co-delivery of the solutions involving all learning tools, development of knowledge asset/repositories, development of communities of practices (CoP) (networks at Unocal), infrastructure integration and support, knowledge transfer, training, and program management. Results included knowledge transfer and improved performance and decreased rework. Specific measurable results include $3 million in costs savings in Alaska from a well non-conversion decision and a 20% reduction in time required to build plans for large-scale platform construction.

US Army Coalition Munitions Clearance

SAIC delivered phase 1 of a planned multi part knowledge architecture including a baseline knowledge architecture and on-line 24/7 accessible knowledge asset (repository) to support the coalition munitions clearance (CMC) program and mission in Iraq. The knowledge asset leverages the critical operational know-how of those involved in the collection, storage, and demolition of munitions in Iraq.

Applying the SAIC KM methodology to the current mission enables the U.S. Army Defense Ammunition Center and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to capture and make accessible for real-time reuse relevant lessons learned that can also be leveraged in current and future munitions clearance operations. The CMC team identified critical best practices in the CMC strategic and operational mission in the areas of Program Management, Deployment, Demolition, Logistics, Working Environment, Safety and Health and Security. This initial phase provides a baseline foundation for a continuing, sustainable, and comprehensive KM system within the CMC program.
