SAIC-Frederick, Inc. has been the Operations and Technical Support contractor for the National Cancer Institute’s Federally Funded Research and Development Center since 1995.

SAIC-Frederick, a wholly owned subsidiary, is rapidly translating basic research into effective new ways of diagnosing and treating cancer and AIDS. It operates the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) national laboratory in Frederick, Md., under the largest contract awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
SAIC-Frederick's staff of scientific, technical, and support professionals:
- Conducts basic and applied research in cancer and AIDS
- Manages a full suite of advanced technologies in areas such as nanotechnology, genomics, and imaging
- Operates the federal government's only vaccine manufacturing facilities — one for NCI and the other for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases/Vaccine Research Center
- Operates the high-performance Advanced Biomedical Computing Center
- Manages a pilot program to improve access to cancer care in community hospitals nationwide
- Supports more than 300 clinical trials treating patients in the United States and around the world
Dr. Larry Arthur, Operations and Technical Support (OTS) principal investigator, is responsible for the comprehensive management and oversight of all scientific and business activities conducted on the OTS contract. The OTS PI and his staff manage the Government's resources and are responsible for the establishment and management of new research, research support, and administrative effort requested by the NCI Office of the Director or by the NCI divisions and their laboratories, branches, or programs, or by other Government entities.
SAIC-Frederick, Inc. maintains a Work For Others program that enables it to perform work for organizations other than NCI if it falls within the purpose and mission of the Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC). SAIC-Frederick, Inc. places paramount importance on quality scientific and business management and performance, high efficiency, cost effectiveness, optimal resource utilization, and technological currency.
