Emergency Preparedness and Response
SAIC's readiness and response professionals provide a focused domestic security capability in support of the Homeland Security mission. Our team includes experienced operational crisis managers from key Federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the Department of Defense, and from local law enforcement entities who are performing work nationwide in crisis management.
Predicting Hazards and Analyzing Disasters
The Consequences Assessment Tool Set (CATS) is a powerful disaster analysis system developed by SAIC for DTRA and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. SAIC provides development, technical, and user support services for CATS, including training, customization, and integration with other data sources. CATS allows public safety officials to create realistic scenarios for training and planning. It provides a comprehensive package of hazard prediction models, casualty and damage assessment tools, and population and infrastructure data. Contingency plans can be created with CATS that include comprehensive population and infrastructure data. CATS was used to prepare the San Diego Super Bowl site in the event of a terrorist attack during Super Bowl XXXVII.
Creating Interoperable and Collaborative Systems
In order to effectively communicate and collaborate, public safety personnel need to know that their new equipment will be interoperable with their existing systems and with other responder systems in the area as well as with national and regional organizations.
Developing Programs & Procedures
To help enhance security at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Utah, SAIC worked with state and local agencies and their federal counterparts to develop the nation's first state homeland security program, which was widely praised by the U.S. Attorney General and other top officials. We supported every facet of public safety from planning to operations, including design and implementation of the Olympic Coordination Center, a chemical and biological protection system, and a statewide system for interagency information sharing.
For the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, SAIC compiled antiterrorism security best practices and procedures for over 65 categories of state and local government facilities and for private critical infrastructure facilities and special event venues.
