Innovative IT outsourcing for geothermal power leader Calpine
When the U.S.’s leading independent power producer, Calpine, wanted to focus on its core business of providing clean, efficient energy, Calpine turned to SAIC for IT outsourcing.
SAIC is helping Calpine save money and improve efficiency by providing infrastructure support services, including help desk, desktop, and voice and data network services. (Specifically, we support about 3,300 desktops and monitor Calpine's network routers and switches from San Diego, California. We also provide 24/7 help desk support for voice, video and teleconferencing service from our North American Integrated Services Management Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.)
In addition to our role as the single point of contact for infrastructure support services, we provide Calpine — the world's largest geothermal power producer — with access to a strong team of project managers and application developers.
Collaborating with two entrepreneurial cultures that recognize and value creativity and flexibility can help Calpine better respond to changing business needs, while improving customer service, usability and lowering costs.
Based in San Jose, California, Calpine generates and markets natural gas-fired and geothermal power through its plants in the U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom. The majority of SAIC's work on the three-year, $34-million outsourcing contract is in the U.S., with some work in Canada — about 126 locations in total.
