Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Training

SAIC's CMMI instructors are experienced in industry best practices. We have demonstrated success in bringing organizations to desired maturity levels.

About the Courses

SAIC is an official member of the Software Engineering Institute's (SEI's) Partner Network. As an SEI Partner we deliver SEI-sanctioned CMMI® for Development (CMMI-DEV) training and CMMI for Services (CMMI-SVC) training. Our instructors are experienced in industry best practices and have demonstrated successes in bringing organizations to desired maturity (or capability) CMMI levels.

Additionally, most of our CMMI instructors are also SCAMPI lead appraisers and this enables them to answer in-depth questions about the CMMI model and how your organization's processes would be appraised.

Introduction to CMMI V1.2 (3 day course)

SAIC delivers this three-day course which introduces systems and software engineering managers and practitioners, appraisal team members, and process group (e.g., SEPG, EPG) members to CMMI fundamental concepts. This course focuses on the CMMI-DEV model which is a tool that helps organizations improve their ability to develop and maintain high quality system, software and hardware products and services.

CMMI-DEV models are an integration of best practices from proven discipline-specific process improvement models, including the CMM® for Software, EIA 731, and the Integrated Product Development CMM.

The course is composed of lectures and class exercises with ample opportunity for participant questions and discussions. After attending the course, participants will be able to describe the components of CMMI-DEV models and their relationships, discuss the process areas in CMMI-DEV models, and locate relevant information in the model.

This course fulfills a prerequisite for any course requiring an official SEI Introductory CMMI course. This course is also a prerequisite for being a lead appraiser, team leader, or team member on a SCAMPI appraisal using the CMMI-DEV model.

Subjects covered:

  • Model-based process improvement
  • Overview of CMMI components
  • Institutionalization
  • Process areas of CMMI-DEV models
  • Structure of continuous and staged representations
  • Next steps

Introduction to CMMI Services Supplement V1.2 (1 day course)

SAIC delivers this one-day course which introduces service providers, appraisal team members, and process group members to CMMI fundamental concepts related to service delivery. The CMMI-SVC model defines effective practices that ensure quality services are delivered to customers and end users.

Some types of services that would benefit from using CMMI-SVC include operations, logistics, maintenance, IT, and many other services in government and industry. Course objectives include understanding how CMMI-SVC can help a services organization improve its performance, describe the unique elements of CMMI-SVC and locate information in the CMMI-SVC model.

The course is composed of lectures and class exercises with ample opportunity for participant questions and discussions. After attending the course, participants will be able to describe the CMMI-SVC model, discuss the model's process areas, and locate relevant information in the model.

This course, with its prerequisite, Introduction to CMMI Version 1.2, fulfills a prerequisite for any course requiring an official SEI Introductory CMMI for Services course. This course is also a prerequisite for being a lead appraiser, team leader, or team member on a SCAMPI appraisal using the CMMI-SVC model.

Subjects covered:

  • Services overview
  • CMMI-SVC Unique Process Areas and Service-Related Specific Practices
  • Next Steps
