Model 3800 Autopilot

SAIC's Model 3800 Autopilot is an all-digital, multi-axis flight-control computer designed for installation in high-performance jet and turboprop aircraft.

Overview

The Model 3800 is an all-digital, multi-axis flight-control computer (autopilot) for high-performance aircraft.

Applications

The Model 3800 Autopilot is designed for installation in high-performance jet and turboprop aircraft but will function well in a wide range of fixed-wing aircraft. The 3800's all-digital design and superior attitude-based performance help older aircraft meet new reduced vertical separation minimum (RVSM) requirements.

Features

  • System includes a remote-mounted autopilot computer unit (ACU) with up to two cockpit mode control panels (MCP) with mode annunciators
  • ACU can be integrated with the MCP and panel-mounted
  • MCP can be tailored to the specific aircraft and its required functions
  • All-digital design provides superior performance, reliability and maintainability
  • ACU includes:
    • ARINC 429 inputs and outputs for aircraft data
    • RS232 inputs and outputs for serial communication to control panels and maintenance port
    • Discrete inputs and outputs for ancillary functions, including additional annunciators
    • Significant spare inputs/outputs, processor memory and throughput available for future growth
    • Aural annunciations
  • Pitch axis modes include altitude hold, altitude capture, and altitude pre-select
  • Roll axis modes include heading hold, heading select, and flight management system (FMS) steering

Benefits

  • Cost-effective solution for meeting RVSM requirements
  • Easy to integrate with existing flight systems
  • Reduces crew workload while increasing range and fuel economy
  • Remote-mounted computer conserves cockpit space
  • Digital design provides more accurate aircraft control
