GEAR Enterprise Server
Overview
SAIC's GEAR Enterprise Server is a rapidly deployable and cost-effective geospatial enterprise architecture solution. GEAR is designed for enterprise deployments, including mobile, field, and continuity of operations environments.
Application
SAIC developed the GEAR Enterprise Server with use cases in mind, where geospatial enablement is required in rapidly changing, ad-hoc environments. The GEAR Enterprise Server is deployable in crisis events and designed for mobility and ease-of-use. The system design is suitable for rapid sharing and dissemination of large volumes of geospatial data and imagery sets.
The hardware solution for GEAR is completely scalable, contains redundant services and power, contains fail-over infrastructure, can be configured for stand-alone operation in a closed environment, and has the capability for rapid recovery of the enterprise environment. The GEAR methodology is neither hardware- nor -software-dependant; however, by applying the industry standards, GEAR fully supports open source clients and utilizes a customizable vendor-specific product base. Depending on the customer requirements, GEAR may be configured with several gigabytes or several terabytes of data.
Features
GEAR Enterprise embodies Geospatial Enterprise Architecture best practices in a simple, scalable, cost-effective, forward-deployable package. The Enterprise solution provides 4.2TB storage capacity to handle massive amounts of data and imagery. The system is configured with multiple redundant database/application servers for load balancing and fail-over to support continuity of operations environments.
Benefits
GEAR can help eliminate time and resources lost to data downloading or updates during critical operations. GEAR is suitable for continuity of operations and designed to provide users with a reliable source for their geospatial data, services, and capabilities in a vast variety of environments.
