ike 504™

ike 504 captures the GPS coordinates and other geospatial data for any target from a safe distance (up to 1000 meters/3280 feet) and provides a verifiable digital image of the target.

Overview

The ike 504 product is a hand-held Geographic Information System (GIS)-related device that integrates a Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM) Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) receiver, digital camera, inclinometer, compass, and a laser designator capable of lasing a target up to 1,000 meters and getting the associated geolocation information all through the use of one hand-held unit.

Applications

Industry applications include, but are not limited to:

  • Military and Intelligence Operations
  • Infrastructure Surveys
  • Specialized Mapping
  • Exercise Planning

Features

Computer - Microsoft® Windows Mobile 5 customizes user interfacing through ESRI® ArcPad Application Builder™. Microsoft embedded Visual Basic™ or embedded Visual C++™ with ike Software Development Kit.

Camera - 3.2-megapixel digital camera with crosshairs verifies target capture. The photo is locked with the target's GPS position and timestamped in a GIS database.

Compass - The internal compass measures bearing to the target, stores directions, and displays data when mapped on the ike or with other applications (e.g. SAIC's GeoRover®).

GPS - Provides target and ike position data at time of capture. Enhanced GPS encryption, anti-spoofing, and anti-jamming satisfy DoD's OCONUS requirements.

Laser Distance Meter - Measures the distance to the target, with an ike-to-target range of up to 1000 meters (3280 feet).

GIS Integration - Target images are mapped on ike with ESRI® ArcPad™. Data stored in spreadsheet (.csv) or GIS (.shp) files are transferred using Microsoft ActiveSync™.

Connectivity - ike's WiFi 802.11b and Bluetooth® capabilities support wireless communications. A standard removable SD card stores ike data. Data transfer through USB and RS232 connections.

Benefits

ike 504 is the ideal solution for GPS data capture:

  • in dangerous or inaccessible environments
  • when safety, accuracy, and efficiency are important
  • for mapping locations where traditional GPS devices cannot operate
  • to comply with DoD requirements for OCONUS operation

ike 504 provide operators with a rapid, safe, flexible, and reliable method to collect geospatial information from a position up to 1000 meters (3280 feet) away and with the push of a button ties all this data to a photograph of the target.

With traditional GPS, the operator must stand at the target location to obtain its GPS coordinates. With an ike 504, the operator can point and shoot at a target from a safe and convenient position to obtain its GPS coordinates.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does the ike 504 meet the requirements mandated by the Department of Defense (DoD) for all new GPS systems to be used outside the continental United States (OCONUS)?
Yes, ike 504 meets DoD requirements via the integrated SAASM GPS receiver.

  • How does ike 504 help safeguard classified military GPS data?
Data stored on the Secure Digital (SD) card can be encrypted by the user.

The SAASM GPS receiver is the only receiver that is unclassified when keyed with Selective Availability. The unclassified SAASM GPS receiver maintains all secure information internally, provides only unclassified outputs (including the permitted point solution information), and it is treated with a tamper-resistant coating.

  • Does the ike 504 require key fill operations?
The ike 504 will operate without keys loaded. However, GPS encryption, antispoofing, and antijamming capabilities require key fill, and GPS position accuracy is dramatically improved when keys are filled. See ike 504 technical specifications for details regarding the GPS position accuracy.

  • Are there ike products that integrate commercial GPS receivers instead of the SAASM GPS receivers?
Yes, SAIC can provide ike products with commercial GPS receivers if you do not require the additional capabilities provided by the SAASM GPS receiver. Please contact SAIC (ike-info@saic.com) for more information regarding the full line of ike product offerings.
