Percept™
Percept™ helps you monitor and manage day-to-day activities, quickly visualize a location emergency, and develop continuity and crisis-response plans.
Overview
The SAIC Percept suite connects essential business information with real-world infrastructure and properties data. Percept is a simple, map-based web-driven view into your facilities. Custom software tools can help you monitor and manage day-to-day activities, quickly visualize a location emergency, and develop continuity and crisis-response plans...proactively, before events happen, and as events occur.
Applications
Percept starts with simple pan/zoom/navigate map functions, captures the weather conditions at the area of interest, allows you to bookmark and return to a particular view, and has a simple, menu-driven interface to help you:
- Visualize the effects of a hazardous materials (hazmat) event in a particular location, using the on-the-ground response guidelines from the U.S. Department of Transportation "Emergency Response Guidebook" (ERG2008) or authoritative plumes generated by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Areal Locations of Hazardous Atmospheres (ALOHA)
- Estimate the impact of an event by comparing damage overlays with employee occupancy in affected facilities, and local demographics data
- Generate and maintain accurate and current facilities usage information through direct vetting and validation of occupancy assignments by authorized local resources-all facility plans and layout information is controlled through your existing processes and systems
- Conduct analyses on occupancy rates, space allocations, cost basis, rent and charge back information, and comply with federally mandated reporting requirements (links ARCHIBUS® and Percept-specific capabilities)
- Conduct drive-time analyses, vehicle routing, and adjust your evaucation and response plans based on road hazards and traffic information (active services and user-specified inputs)
- Open live links to active Web map services such as weather, news feeds, as well as openly available and SAIC-developed image and map services such as Open Geospatial Consortium Inc.® Web Map Service (WMS), Web Feature Services (WFS) and GeoRSS Export and import results for information sharing (PDF, KML, ESRI® Shp)
- Visualize your assets in 3-D, in context with their surroundings (Geoweb3-D)
Percept 3-D delivers accurate information in three dimensions.
- Visualize entire cities, counties or wide-area scenes in precision 3-D
- Render and interact with hundreds of thousands of structures, feature models, and gigabytes of detailed terrain and imagery on your desktop
- Just click and select from virtually any 2-D GIS file, then represent and view those data immediately in an immersive 3-D scene-there are no pre-processing, reformatting or scene generation requirements
- Select from a broad library of models and feature representations for point features, line types and shadings; includes active sky and water
- Render live, full-motion video as a conforming overlay of live-action content 'painted' directly onto 3-D terrain and modeled features
- View TrafficLand® camera feeds across your area of interest
- Generate line-of-sight patterns for a single point or a path, then capture, save, and export the results as ESRI .shp and OGC® KML files for reuse in popular GIS and mapping visualization programs
- Consume dynamic content such as GPS/vehicle location data, sensor feeds and status notifications, and active XML streams; render as points or lines with variable representations based on attributes
- Accepts commonly-available 3-D models (KMZ, Collada, others) as well as engineering-grade building information models (Revit®, FBX®, etc.) for immersion in building facilities management and security operations
- Leverages the inherent power of a video-card graphic processor unit (GPU) found in virtually any off-the-shelf 'gamer' computer
- Written on OpenGL® and uses gamer-technology rendering to produce incredibly detailed, realistic and addressable 3-D objects in each scene
- Simple, intuitive, browser-like interface is compatible with virtually all of the new generation of online web mapping sites
- Save and export point features, linear paths, and simulation views back to your GIS for 'round-trip' editing and cross-platform updates
- ESRI® is a build-in option; exercise and/or authenticate the license and you can be editing and working with ArcGIS® inside the Percept 3-D interface
Features
Available features include:
- A simple, two-dimensional (2-D), browser-based map interface with various functional planning and assessment tools, including weather-driven models, routing and drive times, the ability to ingest OGC WMS, WFS, and GeoRSS map services, as well as local data files
- Export standards-based reports, XML messages and comprehensive geospatial situation maps for information-sharing, planning, collaboration, and response
- A robust 2-D/3-D facilities management interface that connects in-building floor plans with information about buildings, employees, and business roles and activities
Benefits
- Assimilates and compiles standards-based reports on real property, facilities information, and references these data to physical locations
- A high-performance, 3-D geospatial visualization platform linking maps, facilities management, and full-motion video into an immersive environment of 3-D shapes, detailed terrain, and streetscapes
- Photo-realistic immersive 3-D Geographic Information System (GIS) from a desktop or laptop PC
- Seamless, interconnected navigation between 3-D environment, other Percept modules, commercial Web mapping-portals, and other geospatial browser tools and GIS capabilities
Our field teams will work with local resources and your site managers to obtain accurate information about the infrastructure that affects your facilities and integrate these data into the Percept suite. With Percept in your enterprise, you can develop a robust, resilient, and effective management program to help you prepare for, respond to, and recover from situations that affect your locations wherever they may be.

General Configuration:
- SAIC Percept is a Web-based, two-dimensional (2-D) map interface, built with Adobe® FLEX® Flash® tools to work in a wide variety of operating systems and Web browsers. This simple Web client leverages a variety of openly-available online map services, as well as the custom web services SAIC will build for your operation. Percept can also act as direct client to the ESRI® ArcGIS® server for mission-specific or custom map analysis functions.
- The Percept Building client links to the ARCHIBUS WebCentral® engine to harvest and display facilities information, including site graphics and tabular records stored in SQL Server®.
- Percept Building overlays on the Percept map display to show your facilities information in geographic context. Percept and Percept Building are available with base map data from ESRI and the Microsoft Bing™ platform, as well as custom map services SAIC might create for your enterprise. If you have existing geospatial applications within your enterprise, SAIC can integrate Percept capabilities directly into your tools, or adapt your applications for use inside Percept.
- The Percept 3-D interface is built onGeoweb3-D® three-dimensional technology software for rich visualizations and display of GIS data as well as external sensor feeds, lives video streams, active data connections and building information model rendering and viewing.
