AT-900S Radiation Portal Monitor (RPM)
The AT-900S RPM quickly screens for lost or improperly discarded radioactive sources in vehicles.
Overview
SAIC's EXPLORANIUM® AT-900S radiation portal monitor quickly screens for lost or improperly discarded radioactive sources in vehicles or containers as they enter, exit, or move through industrial steel and scrap sites. The system's powerful radiation detection technology is optimized for enhanced detection probability, even for radioactive sources embedded in or shielded by scrap.
Applications
A single lost radioactive source, once melted, can contaminate an entire steel manufacturing facility or scrap recycling plant, requiring prohibitively expensive cleanup. The AT-900S helps guard against such catastrophes by providing high-throughput scanning of trucks, containers, railcars, charge buckets, conveyors, and other large targets entering, exiting, or moving through these sites.
Combining outstanding performance with easy-to-use, console-driven one-button operation, the AT-900S is ideal for supporting high-throughput industrial inspection scenarios where every target must be scanned.
Features
The AT-900S features powerful detectors, advanced electronics incorporating coincident signal processing, and sophisticated adaptive algorithms to enhance detection sensitivity without increasing false alarms. The AT-900S takes into account the unique characteristics of each scanned vehicle before issuing an alarm. The system's detectors can be sized for nearly any type of application.
Alarm messages issued by the AT-900S can be customized to the type of operator, from simple directions for routine monitoring personnel to detailed displays intended for managers. Managers can access the system to verify that specific operator actions were performed in response to alarms. The AT-900S remembers the last 30 days of vehicle radiation data, including complete alarm and system reset histories and other information.
Like other EXPLORANIUM products, the AT-900S offers simple one-button operation. The system issues clear instructions to operators in the event of an alarm. The alarm messages and console displays can be programmed in a wide variety of Latin character-based languages. The system graphically displays the location of radioactive sources in scanned vehicles in real time, making them easier to find. The AT-900S even monitors its own health status and can automatically recover in the event of a system error.
