AT-980 Radiation Portal Monitor (RPM)

Overview

The AT-980 Radiation Portal Monitor (RPM) series uses advanced passive scanning technology to detect gamma and neutron radiation sources in closed, moving vehicles, containers and railcars.

The AT-980 RPM can scan an entire container, trailer or railcar in seconds, enabling security personnel to screen all traffic passing through a facility or checkpoint with minimal impact on traffic. SAIC has manufactured more than 5,000 RPMs for government agencies and commercial clients in the U.S. and abroad.

Applications

The AT-980 RPM is ideal in customs and security applications to aid in the detection of illicit nuclear materials and radioactive sources. The two primary targets are special nuclear material (SNM) used in the creation of atomic weapons and radioactive dispersal devices (RDDs) that use large commercial radioactive sources coupled with a high explosive to provide a non-nuclear blast, leaving significant radioactive contamination.
