CounterBomber®
The CounterBomber® system integrates radar and video to find and track suicide bombers carrying concealed explosive devices outside the perimeter of a bomb's blast zone.
Overview
The CounterBomber® system integrates radar and video to create a system capable of automatically detecting suicide bombers and concealed explosive devices outside the perimeter of a bomb's blast zone.
Bomb Detection Applications
Deployed by armed forces around the globe, the CounterBomber® system automatically detects human-carried suicide bombs, and can sense the presence of explosive devices at ranges beyond a bomb's blast zone.
U.S. armed forces, as well as international militaries, are using CounterBomber to protect high-value assets such as federal buildings, airports, rail stations, hospitals, schools and personnel against the threat of suicide bombers. The system is currently deployed to more than 40 locations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Explosive Detection Features
CounterBomber is a stand-off, non-imaging (radar/video), easy-to-use, automatic detection system comprised of a self-powered, fully mobile, fixed-base tracking device that automatically interrogates subjects once they have entered into an area of interest. The system can rapidly determine if an individual is concealing suicide explosive devices or other hidden weapons such as handguns or machine pistols.
The CounterBomber system was developed by the SET Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of SAIC that specializes in smart sensing and information solutions.
Save Lives Through Standoff IED Detection
| Feature | Benefit |
|---|---|
| Standoff Detection | Reduces risk to US personnel and saves lives |
| Highly Accurate (High Pd, Low Pfa) | Overall improved force protection at lower cost |
| Automatic, easy to use | Requires less training and frees personnel for other high priority tasking |
| Non-imaging | Mitigates privacy concerns |
| Easy to integrate | Eliminates stovepipe and simplifies C2 |
SAIC's CounterBomber provides a powerful force protection capability by automatically and accurately detecting concealed threats at standoff distances.
CounterBomber is a video-steered radar probe that utilizes novel radar signal processing and video tracking techniques to accurately (e.g. high Pd, low Pfa) determine if a subject/person is a potential threat. CounterBomber has been successfully deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2007 with the USMC, US Army and USAF. While the system has been extensively tested by the US Government for detection of suicide vests, CounterBomber has also demonstrated the ability to detect other concealments such as handguns, machine pistols, etc.
CounterBomber also readily integrates decision and video information into standard Command and Control systems.
CounterBomber is a registered trademark of SET Corporation in the United States and/or other countries.
