GR-460 Mobile Radiation Detection Systems

Overview

The GR-460 is a self-contained gamma-ray spectrometer and detector with an integrated control and data recording system. The system operates unattended during actual data collection and is suitable in situations such as pilot only or pilot-less operated aircraft (UAV), driver-only land vehicles or ROV's. It can also be used in remote locations with the system set-up and data retrieval being performed via a modem.

Applications

Government, nuclear facilities and first responder organizations around the world count on the GR-460 to monitor an area for nuclear materials and radioactive sources

  • Post event - emergency response
    — Nuclear accident / contamination assessment
  • Military - force protection
    — Troop corridor clearing
  • Nuclear surveillance
    — Detection and location of illicit nuclear materials and radioactive sources
  • Port security
    — Marine container screening
  • Environmental monitoring
    — Baseline measurements

Features

Once set up, and powered on, the unit will automatically record the gamma-ray measurements to the removable "flash-card" as defined in the set-up parameters. The "flash-card" data recording media allows the transferring of the data for post mission display and analysis. Alternatively, the GR-460 can simultaneously record internally and transmit via an optional modem, by landline phone, cell phone or radio link to a remote base.

Real-time monitoring of the data can be done locally by directly connecting a computer that has the GR-660 software installed. Remote monitoring can also be done via a radio modem, landline or cellular telephone to a base station computer running the GR-660 monitoring and display software. See photo

Other key features include:

  • Rapid determination & identification of radiation levels
  • Neutron detection available
  • Real-time radiation and navigation displays
  • Simple operation using the touch screen display
  • GPS mapping capability
  • Easy installation
  • 10 definable ROI's or Windows
  • Full spectral, ROI, dose rate and navigational recording
  • Nuclide identification
  • Re-play mode
  • Spectrometers feature automatic spectrum stabilization
  • Real-time monitoring of the data is archived by connecting a small computer
  • Universal power operation - 8 to 35 VDC & 85 to 260 VAC
  • Grid map display to create grid map of any ROI just after collection
  • Multiple radiation alarms with indicators

Benefits

The simple, but smart, black box approach is intended for those situations where the need for a skilled attending operator is either not desirable or impossible. The design is such that through the use of a sophisticated automatic spectrum stabilizing technique and an imbedded computer controller, one has confidence of obtaining high quality data unattended. This compact GR-460 system is designed for use by non-expert users, offering fast deployment and quick installation. In this way, the radiation levels and some probable causes can be quickly established and any remedial action taken. Subsequently, the data can be further analyzed as to the specific cause of the radiation.
