Military Mobile VACIS® Imaging System

Overview

SAIC's versatile Military Mobile VACIS imaging system allows customs, security, and military personnel need to search vehicles and cargo for threats, contraband, and other suspicious items in a variety of high-risk environments featuring difficult terrain, harsh climates, and ballistic threats.

Applications

Mounted on a rugged, all-terrain, all-wheel-drive, up-armored High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), the Military Mobile VACIS system captures images of the contents of vehicles in hostile environments and over difficult terrain. The system is ideal for assisting inspection operations at temporary or permanent security checkpoints and border crossings; military bases and other secure facilities; on streets, highways and unimproved roads; in high-risk areas; and even in rugged, remote locations.

Features

The flexible Military Mobile VACIS system can operate in high-throughput stationary mode, where vehicles drive through the stationary system, or in moving mode, with the system's vehicle platform and source cart move synchronously past unoccupied vehicles, scanning them from bumper to bumper. For high-risk scanning scenarios, the system can be operated remotely, allowing operators to maintain a safe distance from scanned vehicles. To enhance operator safety during scanning operations, the Military Mobile VACIS system is equipped with military-grade level III armor protection against ballistic and blast threats.

The Military Mobile VACIS system is mounted on a rugged, all-terrain, all-wheel-drive HMMWV chassis. The HMMWV can operate on military JP-8 fuel, and the entire system is C-130 (or equivalent) airlift compatible.

SAIC's patented detector technology allows trained inspectors see the contents of closed vehicles and containers through more than six inches of steel. Yet, the system's direct radiation dose per scan to cargo is extremely low.
