VACIS® IR6500 Integrated Railcar Inspection System
X-ray imaging, radiation detection and RFID a fast, integrated solution for inspecting railcars and containers on rail.
Overview
SAIC's VACIS IR6500 system is a powerful, practical solution for inspecting railcars and cargo containers on rail in high-volume operations. Its x-ray imaging and radiation scanning help security personnel intercept concealed weapons, nuclear material and other contraband. With its high throughput and small footprint, the system is well suited to the practical challenges of real-world operations.

Features
The VACIS IR6500 system provides a powerful combination of scanning features:
- High-energy x-ray imaging can reveal weapons and other contraband through more than a foot of steel.
- Radiation detection can detect and locate even heavily shielded special nuclear material (SNM) with a false alarm rate of less than 1 in 10,000 meeting or exceeding the challenging ANSI N42.35-2006 standard.
- RF identification (RFID) reads Association of American Railroads (AAR) S-918 RFID tags to identify each railcar as it is scanned
The system quickly integrates the scanning images and data for each railcar in the system database. Security personnel at viewer workstations in nearby or remote locations can view integrated images and data for any railcar at any time.
Benefits
The VACIS IR6500 system is designed for practical operation at busy facilities. Built for high throughput, the system can scan more than 150 cars per hour. The system can scan entire trains as they drive through without stopping creating and storing a separate image of each car. And with its small footprint and low radiation dose, the system can be used in a space only slightly larger than the system itself.
The system's component technologies are now operating at ports, border crossings and other facilities around the world. The system is backed by SAIC's worldwide service organization, providing high-quality installation, training, maintenance and technical support.
