Reconfigurable Tactical Operations Simulator (RTOS)
SAIC's RTOS is a modular, high-fidelity, soldier-in-the-loop, real-time Distributed Interactive Simulation/HLA-compliant computer simulation with the capability to support tactical data link interfaces to tactical equipment.
Overview
SAIC's Reconfigurable Tactical Operations Simulator (RTOS) is a modular, high-fidelity, soldier-in-the-loop, real-time Distributed Interactive Simulation/HLA-compliant computer simulation with the capability to support tactical data link interfaces to tactical equipment. It provides realistic air defense training and analytical capabilities.
Applications
RTOS is both an analytical tool and training device with embedded Patriot, HAWK, THAAD, SLAMRAAM and MEADS models. It has been invaluable in performing Army Air Defense software requirement studies and conducting operator effectiveness and performance assessments. RTOS supports rapid and inexpensive responses to changes in weapon system software and supports the analyst's need for specific modifications necessary to analyze system performance capabilities. For seamless integration into exercises and experiments with live higher echelon participation; the RTOS Patriot, THAAD, MEADS and SLAMRAAM models have Tactical Digital Information Link - J (TADIL-J) data links.
This capability allows the RTOS models to represent a battalion with multiple fire units to a higher echelon element, providing air picture and supporting command and control messages. RTOS models have been used to participate in over 100 distributed exercises since 1995 by the U.S. Army/National Guard; the German, Netherlands, Kuwaiti Air Forces; and the Japanese Air Self Defense Force.
Features
RTOS consists of a hardware configuration based on high-performance workstations to emulate multiple air defense elements. The latest graphics technology is used with programmable, reconfigurable consoles comprised of four LCD touch-screen displays. Actual switches and controls are represented on touch-sensitive panels, a joystick and mouse. Following actual specifications, both appearance and function of any represented operator console are generated by easily edited high-order language software to implement system modifications or new systems.
Benefits
RTOS is a realistic soldier-in-the-loop simulation of multiple Army Air Defense weapons systems and regularly supports DIS/HLA exercises. Its open system architecture can be adapted to growing needs without costly redesign and allows for easy, low-risk modifications, extensions, or additions, supporting rapid, inexpensive responses to changes in weapon system software. RTOS hardware is easily transported and capable of supporting exercises anywhere in the world.
