Wireless Individual Weapon System (W-IWS)
The Wireless Individual Weapon System (W-IWS) is a Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) for the Dismounted Warrior to use during live training.
Overview
It provides high-fidelity detection for real-time casualty assessment in training exercises. The W-IWS is small and easy to mount on all uniform categories making it one of the most adaptable and flexible MILES products available for warfighters today.
Applications
SAIC's fifth generation W-IWS' lightweight design provides maximum flexibility and adaptability to the warfighter in live training exercises. The W-IWS kit consists of four laser detectors, two of which go on the helmet strap, a Wireless User Interface (WUI), and the Small Arms Transmitter (SAT). The four laser detectors are easy and quick to mount and deliver full zone detection-head, front and rear. The WUI handheld controller provides a graphical user interface and audio cues for real-time casualty assessment during live training.
Features
- Wireless handheld controller with graphical user interface
- Audio cues
- Four wireless detectors to provide full zone detection-head, front and rear
- Rechargeable in-place in transit case to accelerate power restoration during storage
- Devices on Personal Area Network (PAN)
- Automatic built-in learn procedure to allow for rapid configuration and to reduce setup time
- Radio frequency (RF) interface to associated individual and crew-served weapons
Benefits
At less than 0.5 kilogram total weight, the W-IWS is one of the lightest, wireless, individual live instrumentation systems fielded to date. Wireless means there are no cables that can be cut or damaged during an exercise. This reduces support costs and soldier intrusiveness, allowing the user to "train as you fight."
The lightweight, low-power components of the W-IWS minimize interference with live training and weapon systems' operation. Batteries recharge in-place in the W-IWS transit case to accelerate power restoration during storage.
The common components of the W-IWS are interoperable throughout SAIC's dismounted and mounted systems so you can combine capabilities of different wireless components to fit your unique training needs. This helps to lower production costs, reduce life-cycle support expenses, and provides the opportunity to procure more systems to support your training objectives.
