Survey Analysis and area Based EditoR

SABER is an efficient tool for processing, editing, updating, viewing and analyzing hydrographic survey data.

Overview

SAIC's Survey Analysis and area Based EditoR (SABER) is an efficient tool for processing, editing, updating, viewing and analyzing hydrographic survey data. SAIC developed SABER to be one of the most flexible, robust data processing tools in the industry. The software was designed to efficiently and smoothly archive, display and process large data volumes associated with hydrographic surveys.

It can generate color-coded bathymetry, multibeam imagery mosaics, sonar imagery mosaics, survey coverage, contours, and smooth sheet plots. These products can contain annotated tracklines, selected soundings, and total propagate error values for your data. SABER has also fully integrated the Combined Uncertainty and Bathymetry Estimator (CUBE) algorithm, which allows you to generate CUBE Depth surfaces and Bathymetric Attributed Grids, all in compliance with the latest NOAA standards.

Applications

Data Processing

  • Create or initialize the analysis session
  • Generate the Hydrographic Management System Reports
  • Generate any required file lists and time windows
  • Generate tracklines and process all navigation data
  • Apply any necessary correctors (tides, sound velocity profiles, offsets, delayed heave)
  • Apply automatic ping and beam flag filtering
  • Edit the multibeam swath data with MVE

Data Analysis

  • Build, view, QA/QC and query gridded depth layers
  • Build and plot sonar coverage grids
  • Perform junction analysis on difference layers
  • Generate bathymetric contours
  • Generate selected soundings
  • Generate working plots of soundings and contours
  • Sonar imagery contact analysis
  • Complete final editing
  • Create final contours files
  • Create final soundings files
  • Total propagated error estimation
  • Coverage analysis on bathymetric model

Area Based Processing

  • Replaces labor intensive line by line interactive editing
  • View and edit all data in an entire area concurrently
  • Retain edits in full resolution native data files
  • Interfaces directly with target files and imagery data
  • Seafloor model computed using Combined Uncertainty and Bathymetry Estimator (CUBE)

Data Products

  • Plot final contours and tracklines
  • Plot final coverage plots
  • Create junction analysis reports
  • Create and plot the smooth sheet
  • Create and plot any profile plots
  • Create S-57 feature file
  • Data model in form of Bathymetric Attributed Grid (BAG)

Features

  • Total propagated error estimation
  • CUBE processing
  • Coverage analysis on bathymetric model
  • Area based editing
  • Dividing larger survey areas into sub-areas allowing systematic processing
  • Editing, filtering, and smoothing of position data
  • Correcting for tidal variations, roll/pitch/azimuth offsets, and sensor mounting positions
  • Recalculation of depth data for different sound velocity profiles
  • Recalculation of multibeam alignment calibrations for roll/pitch/azimuth offsets, transducer and antenna mounting positions
  • Graphical display of gridded depth and coverage data for interactive analysis
  • Interactive and automatic editing of bad soundings
  • Generation of interim and final data products as interactive displays or hard copy plots, and
  • Generation of interim and final reports that summarize the data and document the processing procedures.

Benefits

SABER provides an intuitive approach and supports a standardized processing flow to ensure consistent results. The product helps streamline the effort required to produce data products and minimizes survey rework when these processes are applied in the shipboard environment. The MultiView Editor (MVE) allows operators to view and edit all the data in an entire area simultaneously and directly retain those edits in the full-resolution native data files.

A primary benefit of the SABER product is the ability to efficiently process massive data volumes using one software package. This provides the scientist with a seamless transition between the full-resolution swath-oriented data and geographically oriented data.
