CraneView Crane-Mounted OCR System

SAIC's CraneView system streamlines the discharge and loading process by automatically reading and recording the ID numbers of containers as they are moved by quay cranes — in real time.

Overview

Keeping track of containers during discharge and loading can be a real challenge. And manually recording container numbers under the crane and stow positions on the vessel is costly and often inaccurate.

SAIC's CraneView reads the number of each container as it is moved by the crane. CraneView's StowPlan feature determines the stow position of each container as it is discharged or loaded, and issues an alert when the actual position doesn't match the plan. CraneView provides this information to the TOS in real time to help the terminal manage its crane operations.

Features

  • The standard CraneView system provides OCR for single-container moves between the crane legs. The CraneView Viewer displays container images and OCR results for multiple cranes.
  • The optional StowPlan feature determines the actual stow position of each container during discharge and loading. StowPlan provides a real-time display of the bays and issues alerts for incorrect positions and other exception conditions.
  • CraneView can also be equipped with OCR for backreach moves and twin-20s, audit cameras for visual review of containers, and an IP-based CCTV system to monitor the truck queue.

Benefits

  • Increases efficiency through automation
  • Reduces data errors from manual processes
  • Reduces incorrect moves by verifying stow positions
  • Helps manage crane operations by providing data directly to the TOS
