The Freeport Regional Water Project, which is a cooperative effort between Sacramento County Water Agency and East Bay Municipal Utility District, will be the largest water resources project in Sacramento County history once complete. The project is the result of an historic agreement between the East Bay Municipal Utility District and the Sacramento County Water Agency to draw 185 million gallons per day (MGD) of water from the Sacramento River. This agreement established the Freeport Regional Water Authority, which guides the financing, ownership, development, construction, and operation of the project. The project includes an intake structure, three pumping plants, a water treatment plant, and more than 30 miles of pipeline.
To keep this massive project on time and on budget, the Freeport Regional Water Authority turned to SAIC for program and construction management and environmental permitting services. SAIC also managed the overall development of strategy, including the selection of preferred project delivery methods.
When complete, the $965 million water resources program will provide drought relief, allow for continued economic growth, and supply water for more than 1.3 million consumers.
