In order to implement environmental best practices, Chesapeake Energy retained SAIC to obtain baseline water samples prior to drilling at several shale basins to document the current natural conditions and help ensure that their development operations had negligible impact on the local water quality.
“Mission-critical projects can afford no mistakes, particularly in the growing shale industry.” - Ron Weaver, SAIC project manager
SAIC’s baseline sampling results provided a summary of pre-existing water quality conditions, serving as a mechanism to proactively reduce risk and the associated liability for Chesapeake and its investors. Chesapeake is the second-largest producer of natural gas, a top 15 producer of oil and natural gas liquids, and the most active driller of new wells in the United States. They selected SAIC to conduct its baseline testing project because of our outstanding past performance, breadth of capabilities, unique understanding of their company, and our ability to uniformly provide data collection over a wide geographic area.
SAIC data collection and reporting is performed daily and is processed and uploaded into a central database within 24 hours. This activity supports Chesapeake achieving regulatory compliance across various states and provides visibility to the public regarding Chesapeake’s goal of clean, life-cycle operations.
