The Peggy and Charles Stephenson Oklahoma Cancer Center combines state-of-the-art research, training for the next generation of cancer health professionals, and the most compassionate patient care into one single, convenient location on the campus of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City. As Oklahoma's only comprehensive academic cancer center, and through its recent affiliation with the Sarah Cannon Research Institute, the facility will become the primary venue for adult outpatient cancer treatment in Oklahoma and throughout the central United States region.
The new cancer center was designed as a "landmark" facility and is located on a prominent corner of the medical campus. The architectural centerpiece of the building is a five-story atrium which is open to the fourth floor at its highest point and extends down to the lower level. The north side of the atrium is glazed and looks out over a sheltered, heavily landscaped healing garden with a waterfall and fountain. At the first floor level, the atrium is adjacent to the main entry lobby of the building, which is laid out and furnished to create a comfortable, home-like, "living room" atmosphere. The south side of the lobby opposite the open atrium, houses a full-service restaurant. Other functions in the lobby include a patient resources center, an appearance salon for prosthetics, wigs and makeup, a family room, and a meditation room.
