SAIC Supports Data System Development for the EPA Greenhouse Gas Reporting System

Experts from across SAIC are developing an electronic reporting tool – electronic Greenhouse Gas Reporting Tool (e-GGRT) – for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Climate Change Division that will be used by approximately 7,000 facilities to submit annual greenhouse gas (GHG) reports.

Overview

SAIC’s work for the EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP) is bridging the gap between industry, information technology (IT), and reporting protocols in order to realize implementation of the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Rule (40 CFR part 98).

The program requires the annual reporting of greenhouse gas data by large emitters and suppliers of fossil fuels and certain industrial gases. Approximately 7,000 facilities with annual emissions of more than 25,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide report their data to the EPA.

The EPA awarded SAIC a task order to assist the EPA Climate Change Division (CCD) in developing the electronic Greenhouse Gas Reporting Tool (e-GGRT), which must be used by regulated facilities to submit the annual GHG reports. In addition, SAIC is building a web site for CCD that will allow the public to access the data submitted by those facilities.

SAIC was selected for its wide-ranging environmental science experience as well as for its professional software developers who are well versed in a variety of programming languages, Web-based systems, and major database products. Drawing on our proficiency in GHG inventory and emissions accounting, policy analysis, strategic planning, climate science, and adaptation services, SAIC provided air quality and environmental auditing services to many of the industries covered by the rule, including manufacturers and electric utilities.
