Integrating Architectural and Engineering Services for State-of-the-Art Meteorologist Facility

SAIC provided technology, architectural, and engineering consulting services to support the construction of the 50,000-square-foot (SF) Weathernews Americas, Inc., operations center on University of Oklahoma Campus in Norman, Okla.

Overview

The new Weathernews Americas, Inc., 50,000-SF facility supports the relocation and consolidation of operating units in California and Oklahoma. The facility hosts Weathernews’ forecasting operations center and provides businesses in industries such as agriculture, marine, aviation, energy, media, mobile, and offshore oil with weather information, analysis and decision support products and services. The project includes an operations center, server room, administrative support spaces, exterior communications infrastructure, and a satellite ground station.

SAIC developed preliminary engineering concepts and design criteria for systems reliability, including:

  • Universal power supply systems
  • Standby power generation
  • Critical power distribution
  • Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems
  • Fire suppression systems
  • Network equipment
  • Communications cabling
  • Grounding systems and lightning protection for a computer room, operations center and administrative support spaces

SAIC also designed and installed a 30’x 8’ video display wall system utilizing high resolution, widescreen projectors, and a video processor to display multiple sources in various user-selected custom configurations.
