Reliability and Maintainability

SAIC reliability engineers work closely with customers to analyze system or product reliability characteristics through the entire life cycle, from concept phase through system operations.

The objective is to help improve system performance and reduce unplanned costs through

  • Determination of quantitative and qualitative reliability and maintainability requirements
  • Identification and evaluation of potential failure modes and effects at a functional or subsystem level
  • Determination of reliability weak links that may drive operational risk and cost
  • Assessment, measurement, and verification of reliability and maintainability performance

Complementing our reliability engineering capability, we also assess system or product maintainability to aid our customers in determining optimal efficiency and cost reduction. These activities include fault detection, preventative maintenance and inspection program development, equipment maintenance procedure evaluation, and maintainability analysis.

We utilize reliability engineering processes to help ensure system performance and reduce unplanned costs. For the reliable performance and successful operation of a system or product, our reliability engineers analyze reliability characteristics through the life cycle (determining quantitative and qualitative reliability requirements, performing Failure Mode Effects and Analysis at a functional and subsystem level, determining weak links, and assessing reliability performance).

Our capabilities include:

  • Requirements development
  • Failure modes and effect analysis
  • Fault tree analysis
  • Reliability-centered maintenance
  • Reliability and quality assurance
  • Verification and validation

Analysis and Assessments

Our analysts and engineers can provide analyses and assessments in both reliability and maintainability areas to meet any size project or program.

Analysis and Assessment Description
Component or item life and reliability analysis Determination of the failure rate or life expectancy of components and the determination of failure mechanisms using techniques such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Weibull analysis, accelerated life testing, repairable systems analysis, and reliability growth modeling
System or mission reliability analysis, prediction, and assessment Prediction and/or assessment of the ability of a system to perform as intended over a period of operating time or mission. Techniques include use of logical models and tools such as Reliability Block Diagram Analyses, Fault Tree Analyses, as well as Monte Carlo simulations
Maintainability analysis, prediction, and assessment Prediction and/or assessment of the ability to repair or renew a failed item or system. A characteristic of an item's design, maintainability is a key component in achieving system availability requirements
Reliability-centered maintenance analysis Analyze system and component failure modes to identify "scheduled" or "on-condition" tasks to be performed at the assigned maintenance levels and to specify the frequency of those tasks

Why SAIC?

SAIC services are designed to assure the reliable performance and successful operation of a system or product that requires the management and technical integration of reliability engineering activities and involves design, development, and product assurance activities.
