Surface Transportation
The efficient movement of people and goods is critical to the success of the U.S. economy. SAIC provides research, analysis, implementation, integration, management, and facilitation support for state, federal, and commercial entities to assist them in providing tomorrow's transportation solutions today.
Traffic Operations and Planning
SAIC works with state and federal departments of transportation to solve challenges associated with traffic operations. SAIC conducts studies and provides support on a variety of issues related to traffic operations including traffic signal timing, active traffic management, emergency transportation operations, traveler information, road weather systems, and congestion pricing.
SAIC works with agencies to develop answers to challenging policy questions, to identify best practices in operations, to determine the benefits of new operational solutions, and to provide support with outreach and education on operations issues.
Intelligent Transportation Systems
SAIC has over two decades of experience in evaluating and deploying advanced transportation technologies and approaches. We have conducted over 75 independent evaluations of intelligent transportation systems, including traveler information systems, freeway and incident management programs, evacuation support systems, and multi-state deployments of collision avoidance technology. We are supporting the deployments of web-based freight information systems and ground-breaking mileage based user fee applications.
Transit
Transit agencies across the country face challenges in providing transit services that are both safe and efficient. SAIC works with transit agencies to identify and share best practices in transit safety and transit operations, including the use of intelligent transportation system technologies.
Rail
As a major contributor to the economy, the freight railroad industry produces over 1.8 trillion ton-miles annually generating revenue of over $54 billion. Despite its longevity the rail industry continues to evolve with regards to safety, efficiency, policy, new technologies, etc. SAIC works directly with the railroad industry providing new technologies that promote safety, security, a clean environment, and improves the efficiency of the rail network and operations.
Freight Management
Overcrowding of the U.S. highway system is a major concern. SAIC works with transportation departments to promote efficient, seamless, and secure freight flows and to implement new technologies that will help reduce congestion, carbon emissions, and improve the existing U.S. transportation system.
Policy
A transportation system that fosters safety, efficiency, prosperity, and a healthy environment for all people requires national policy in tune with the needs of today's transportation providers and the possibilities of tomorrow. SAIC works with federal government clients to set the stage for effective programs and investment decisions at the state, regional, and local levels and to identify directions for future policy.
